Franklin Elementary
Franklin Elementary is a another slice of heaven in the northeast of Vermont, right up on the Canadian boarder on the far edge of the Missisquoi Valley School District, at the edge of Enosburg Falls.
Alita Boomhower, the school nurse, has been leading the staff wellness charge for more years than we can remember. Everyone is busy in schools these days, but the school nurse is top of the list on the "my job is crazier than yours" challenge. You wouldn't know it when you stand in the front office/nurses station (yeah, they're jammed packed together). She's as cool as a cumcumber, as loving as a nurses hug ought to be, and as smilie as a best friend on your birthday. Who can say that in this post pandemic era? We can. We saw it with our own eyes.
Alita has helped her peers and school principal build a culture of wellbeing that seems unmatched. How? You know the central theme... Connection, trust, authenticity, and teamwork. Oh, and all with a good splash of fun.
Principal Joyce Hakey has Alita's back on all this too. When leadership smiles, role models, and helps prioitize people's wellbeing, healthy habits and caring blossoms. Neither rural isolation, nor economic factors, nor pandemic frustrations can bring this bunch down. They're in it together, every day, every minute.
