The Warren School and Principal Sam
Sam Krotinger has been in education for 25 years and is in his 5th year as principal at the Warren Elementary School. On this particular Thursday afternoon in June, however, Sam is “chef-ing” in his home, along with his wife Nicole.
Having won the school staff healthy recipe cook-off (hosted by Stefanie Seng), Sam is now one of our Rockstar Chefs, and he walked us through, step by step, how to make Stuffed Manicotti crepes. It is a recipe given to him by his college roommate who had an Italian grandmother. He learned to cook by watching his father throw elaborate dinner parties, but his mother sealed the deal when she helped him forever capture his college cooking days in a homemade recipe book.
Sam and Nicole (Admin director of Counseling and Wellness at Norwich University) both love to cook and have dinner with friends. They feel that is a true example of a healthy wellness practice. Sam wants that at school also. "One of the things that I’ve been doing at the Warren School as building principal is encouraging regular culture building, staff get-togethers, meals, etc."
The Krotingers say they eat healthy, including lots of greens and fish, but they also love rich foods, including lots of butter. “It’s one of my favorite food groups,” Sam says. He goes on to explain that they don’t have “should “ and "should not” lists of what foods to eat. “We don't get caught up in the current diet trends,” Sam says. "I make the best eggs benedict in the world," he boasts. Nicole agrees.
And we agree that Sam is, indeed, a Rockstar Chef!!
