Lynne Hansen, no stranger to hard work, is Highgate School’s literacy interventionist and one of VEHI PATH’s wellness rock stars. According to Amber Renaudette, Hansen’s teaching partner, Hansen is extremely physically and emotionally active on a daily basis. Before heading to school, she exercises following the Beach Body program. “She is very encouraging, generous and considerate and maintains her positive energy even when things get rough,” said Renaudette. “She does little things in our school that have a tremendous impact on students and staff, leaving positive messages in the bathrooms and bringing in festive soaps to share. She serves on the wellness and educational support teams and assists with planning the winter carnival. As the VEHI PATH wellness leader, Hansen hosts employee wellness breakfasts and has participated in the PATH Adventure for the past 25 years.”
“Eighty to ninety percent of our school’s employees participate in the PATH Adventure annually,” said Hansen.
At the school day’s end, Hansen returns to her family’s 65 acre farmstead in Alburgh. Originally from Connecticut, Hansen and her family moved to Alburgh when she was eight years old to manage a resort on Lake Champlain with 12 housekeeping cottages. It was there Hansen learned the ins and outs of resort management and became intrigued with caring for and riding horses. Now in a camouflage jacket and pants and muck boots, Hansen is ready for a slew of chores. First, it’s time to nurture her horse, feed and brush him. Next it’s time to collect the sap from several buckets on their 200 sugar maple trees and hauling wood in to feed the fire for sugaring.
