Betsey Sessions, a member of the Human Resources team at the Champlain Valley School District office, has the magic touch. She encourages her colleagues to reach beyond their comfort zones and experiment with healthier foods, physical activity and to see all that Vermont has to offer. “And as a result we become invested,” said Sandy Raymond, one of her colleagues. “She constantly brings in new foods for us all to sample that have a healthy and fresh spin to them. Though I am far from a person anxious to try new foods such as quinoa and curry, with her encouragement, I find myself partaking willingly.”
Session’s magic touch doesn’t stop with fostering healthier nutrition practices. “Having been here for the past 28 years, she is our historian,” said Raymond. “We all go to her for guidance because she knows everything and is eager to help us whether it’s about copier maintenance, office maintenance or tips for stress relief. She explains and shares stretches and activities we can do while at our desks and nudges us all to think about what we can do to improve our core strength.”
“I am always talking with staff about my activities, exercise classes and Vermont adventures,” said Sessions. “Right now I’m involved in rug hooking and two exercise classes – R.I.P.P.E.D and another that involves Samurai swords,” she said. “I want to do as much as possible with my upper body so I can help my mom with tasks such as moving ladders to hang holiday lights. I also spend much of my free time as a volunteer because it’s a way to meet people.” “At the Flynn theatre, I push coffee and cookies,” she admitted sheepishly. “I also serve as a dairy barn volunteer frosting doughnuts and scooping ice cream.”
